Western Cape
Region Muharram Ed - JANUARY
2008
|
MUHARRAM ... is the first month of the Islamic Calendar and as its name suggests, started from the time our beloved Nabi Muhammad's (SAW) migration from Makkah to Medina. Among the days of this auspicious month, the 10th of Muharram has a sanctity of its own.Commemoration of 10th MuharramHow did Nabi Muhammad
(SAW) commemorate the 10th of
Muharram The
10th of Muharram was observed as a day of fasting by the
Quraish in the time of Jahiliyah (ignorance). The Prophet (SAW) used to
observe this fast. When the Prophet (SAW) entered Medina, he found the people of the Book fasting and honouring the 10th of Muharram. He said unto them: “What is this day you are fasting?”
They replied: “this is a great day. On this day, Allah saved Nabi Moosa
(AS) and his people and drowned Firoun and his men. In thanks to Allah,
did Nabi Moosa (AS) fast on this day.” So the Prophet (SAW) said unto
them: “we are nearer in duty to follow Nabi Moosa (AS).”
It was the Prophets custom to imitate all good deeds and practices. He then fasted on this day and ordered his followers to do likewise. He stressed this practice that even the children of Medina fasted on this day. Fasting during the month of MuharramThere
are 3 formats of Fasting which can be observed during
Muharram Fasting for 3 consecutive days: 9th, 10th and 11th of Muharram Fasting for 2 days, either the 9th and 10th or the 10th and 11th Muharram Fasting on the 10th Muharram Ghátamul Qurán Muharram ProgrammeTHEME: Pondering upon the beauty of Qurán

Operation Qurbani report back
SANZAF Representatives from around the country travelled to the heart of the poor to perform this sacred act. One of our regions had an excellent experience with its local Qurbani, having performed it in several townships. The difference this year was that they took the donors with them and this had several advantages, including exposing them to the areas in which SANZAF operates, helping to bridge the divide between donor and recipients Education & Empowerment ProjectThe Education and empowerment project in the
Western Cape has shown remarkable growth since inception in 1985. This
bursary project was aimed at empowering
and assisting needy students, and has subsequently developed into one of
SANZAF's leading projects.
