My Journey at SANZAF: National Office and Beyond

As the current National Coordinator of SANZAF, my role revolves around ensuring seamless alignment with our policies and providing support to ensure compliance with both external regulatory and internal organisational guidelines. Engaging with Regional Heads, staff members, and regional executive members, my journey has been one of growth, challenges, and ultimately, strengthening the operations and impact of the National Office.

A Humble Beginning and Stepping Stones

My quest with SANZAF commenced in 1997, working in the National Diary office. My initial responsibilities included securing page sponsors, which later evolved into managing the Diary project. The drive to explore a home-based business led me to leave SANZAF in 2012. However, I continued part-time to support the Diary Project until they could find a replacement.

As circumstances changed, I returned to full-time work in 2013. It was during this time that I was approached by Abdurazaaq Razaaq to assist him in the National office. I embraced the opportunity, taking on roles that included National Diary Coordinator, Salt River Office Manager, and Assistant to the National Coordinator. The journey continued to evolve when Abduraazaaq resigned, leaving me entrusted with the responsibilities of the National Coordinator role.

Navigating Challenges and Pivotal Moments

Taking over the role was a formidable task, but with determination and a willingness to learn, I embraced it. From 2013 to 2018, I managed the National Office, coordinating national requirements and supporting the National Office Bearers in running the organisation. The role demanded immense dedication, often requiring me to work around the clock.

One of the pivotal moments was the drafting, development, and implementation of various policy manuals that played a vital role in aligning the regions. Challenges emerged from the need for change, and my role included addressing resistance and misconceptions within the regional heads. Developing resilience and maintaining a forward-thinking attitude became essential.

The Path to Unity and Impact

The objective of the National Office was to harmonize SANZAF's mission across regions and ensure consistency in various aspects. Despite initial resistance, the National Office worked towards achieving this goal. A significant milestone was the audit of SANZAF as a single entity, marking the beginning of the organisation's unity.

To solidify the National Office's operations and impact, I embraced organisation, foresight, and a commitment to compliance with policies. However, above all, the core principle was to serve beneficiaries with respect and dignity, ensuring they leave our offices with a sense of relief, regardless of the outcome.

Respect, accountability, and a connection with my faith guide my approach. The journey has been marked by continuous learning, and the ultimate measure of success lies in what Allah (SWA) would say. My commitment remains to serve, to strengthen, and to uphold the values of SANZAF while staying true to my principles.

In embracing the challenges and celebrating the milestones, my journey at SANZAF continues, fortified by the vision of unity and impact that drives us forward.
